Don't Shoot The Dog by Karen Pryor

A fantastic book not just for dog training but for motivating anyone (husbands, kids, cats and so on) it really explains why positive reinforcement is the only way to train. I have re-read it a number of times and recommend it more than any other book I've ever read. Every bookshelf should have a copy!  Although not a “how to teach your dog specific behaviour” kind of book it does explain very clearly and in a very entertaining way how to approach training in general, this aspect is probably what causes the most difficulty in training.   So if you are stuck on how to teach a particular behaviour, how to approach training in general or simply want to improve your knowledge then this will provide valuable insight.
