How old does my dog need to be to start flyball?

A dog must be 12 months before they can start training and 18months before they can compete in a BFA Sanctioned Competition.

Can any dog do flyball?

Yes within reason however dogs with long backs such as Dachshunds or Bassets would not be suitable as due to the nature of their anatomy jumping is not encouraged for these breeds.

Is there any training I can do while waiting for a course?

One good thing to train is getting your dog used to fetching a static ball as most dogs will get one that is thrown but when it's not moving thats a different story!

How long is a course?

The course is 8 weeks but this only gives you the basics and you should expect it to take longer before your dog is doing flyball properly. Some dogs take longer some don't but it has no effect on how good your dog will ultimately be.

I think I'd like to bring my dog to flyball but not sure I would want to compete is that a problem?

Not at all we have many members who come only to class as an activity to do with their dog and you will get the same training and attention as team members do.
